The Capital of Costa Rica
San José is the capital of Costa Rica, and the nation’s largest city. Located in the Central Valley, San José is the seat of the national government, the focal point of political, cultural and economic activity within Costa Rica, and the major transportation hub of this Central American nation.
In downtown San Jose our preferred partner hotel is Hotel Grano De Oro. Situated on a shady street just off Paseo Colon (a main thoroughfare of San Jose), Hotel Grano de Oro is a true oasis, a sanctuary in the heart of the city. Converted from a Tropical Victorian mansion, the 40-room hotel maintains the warmth and comfort of a private home. The Restaurant at Grano de Oro merges Costa Rican tropical with European cuisine under the expertise of their French chef Francis. Once a simple cafe, this restaurant has evolved into one of San Jose’s finest dining establishments, frequented by locals and tourists alike.
This is a good stop for travelers looking to gain a better prospective of life in Costa Rica from the point of view in the capitol of the country and is very convenient to all downtown tourist sites of interest. It is also less than 30 minutes from the airport.
If your inbound flight arrives late or your outbound flight leaves early, we recommend the The Hampton Inn at the San Jose airport. They provide a free shuttle van 24 hours a day as well as a free hot and cold buffet breakfast when you’re in a hurry.
